Add a username<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can then set up your profile with your username. You have to use at least one name, although it doesn&#8217;t have to be your real first name and it can even be an emoji. Start a chat<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From your home screen, you can start individual and group chats by tapping the pencil icon in the upper-right corner (on iOS) or the lower-right corner (on Android). This will pull up existing contacts who are already on Signal or give you the option to invite new users.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-port-a-whatsapp-chat-group-to-signal\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_port_a_WhatsApp_chat_group_to_Signal\"><\/span>How to port a WhatsApp chat group to Signal<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have any WhatsApp group chats to switch over, you can simply tap Invite Friends to Signal and start messaging.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if you want to preserve a WhatsApp group and get everyone (mostly) seamlessly into the same chat without having to add people individually, you&#8217;ll need to create a new group by tapping the pencil icon on Signal&#8217;s Contacts screen.
