Digestion, Endocrine Control and Metabolism – FIS2601
Under Graduate Degree Semester module NQF level: 6 Credits: 12
Module presented in English
Pre-requisite: CHE1501 (or XHE1501) or CHE1502 (or XHE1502)
Purpose: To obtain thorough knowledge of the physiology of the gastrointestinal tract, endocrinology and intermediary metabolism in order to identify, solve and scientifically communicate in an integrated fashion basic problems concerning these topics.
Respiration and Excretion – FIS2602
Under Graduate Degree Semester module NQF level: 6 Credits: 12
Module presented in English
Pre-requisite: CHE1501 (or XHE1501) or CHE1502 (or XHE1502)
Purpose: To understand the excretory and respiratory systems? functions and their contribution to the maintenance of a constant internal environment (homeostasis).
Physiological Defence Mechanisms – FIS2603
Under Graduate Degree Semester module NQF level: 6 Credits: 12
Module presented in English
Pre-requisite: CHE1501 (or XHE1501) or CHE1502 (or XHE1502)
Purpose: To gain insight into the functioning of the physiological defence mechanisms of the body, the mechanisms for heat regulation, and the important role of the skin.
Physiology II (Practical) – FIS2604
Under Graduate Degree Year module NQF level: 6 Credits: 12
Module presented in English
Pre-requisite: CHE1501 (or XHE1501) or CHE1502 (or XHE1502) Co-requisite: Any two of the following: FIS2601, FIS2602, FIS2603
Purpose: On completion of this module students will have been exposed to a range of laboratory equipment such as basic measurement devices to more advanced instruments. They will personally be able to follow a laboratory protocol and analyse the data that is obtained from such a protocol. Students will also be able to describe basic laboratory techniques used in physiology experiments.
