Purpose

To target previously disadvantaged managers and beginners in these businesses who seek to expand their areas of knowledge to assist them in adapting to this fast changing discipline.
 

Target group

People managing small, medium and micro enterprises (SMME) without any formal academic training in agribusiness management.
 

Admission requirements

Senior Certificate or an equivalent NQF level 4 qualification.
 

Duration

Six months

First semester: 28 November – 25 January

Tuition method

UNISA open distance learning, largely based on printed material that is also available online on myUnisa and consists of a study guide, prescribed textbooks supplemented with tutorial letters and group discussions
 

Kind of assessment

Note:
Formative assessment and examination admission will comply with UNISA’s formative assessment rules and policies.
Formative assessment:
Reflective and practical self assessment activities incorporated in the tutorial matter and assignments and assignment marks contribute to the year-mark and count 10% of the final mark per module
Summative assessment:
A two-hour exam per module
Pass mark:
A sub-minimum of 40% has to be achieved in the examination

  • The concept and framework of agribusiness management and its objectives
  • Financial statements in the respective agribusinesses of the participants or in simulated agribusinesses
  • Financial statement analyses
  • Agribusiness budgets
  • Sources and procedures for credit application in South Africa
  • Apply for credit for the agribusinesses that the students have already identified
